John Lutter appointed to the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communication Board of Directors
NEW BRIGHTON, MINN. (Sept. 12, 2008) – Risdall Advertising Agency’s (RMG) John Lutter was appointed to the University of Minnesota’s School of Journalism and Mass Communication (SJMC) Alumni Society Board of Directors. Over the years, RMG has supported the journalism school relationship — Lutter marks the fifth RMG employee to serve on the SJMC Alumni Society board.
“RMG emphasizes giving back to the community and fostering an environment conducive to learning and growing,” said Lutter, a creative director at RMG. “Among my motivations to join the board, providing guidance to aspiring communications professionals ranks highest.”
Lutter has worked with SJMC students in the SJMC mentoring program. And RMG has sponsored programs like Fusion Marketing – a student-run advertising agency within RMG – and Intern for A Day – a paid job shadowing and mentoring-focused day in which students received feedback on resumes and insight into the marketing industry.
“The students I’ve mentored have been focused on finding employment post graduation, and were looking for a simple solution,” said Lutter. “In reality, it’s just not that simple. So I share my journey with them in the hope of helping them realize that their careers will be a process and, along the way, I challenge them to think beyond the destination.”
Lutter graduated from the University of Minnesota’s SJMC in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. His 25-year copywriting career has included award-winning work and stints at Periscope, Campbell-Mithun, Kolesar & Hartwell and Colle & McVoy. Lutter joined RMG in 2004.
In addition to Lutter, Tina Karelson, Kevin Deshler, Jim Sandstrom and Len Mitsch have also served on the SJMC Alumni Society Board of Directors.
