RISDALL ADVERTISING AGENCY HIRES UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA AD CLUB MEMBERS AS INTERNS-FOR-A-DAY

Risdall hires from group writer, web designer and assistant account executive as second semester interns

NEW BRIGHTON, MN (December 14, 2005) -- Risdall Advertising Agency hired 23 of the University of Minnesota School of Journalism and Mass Communications Ad Club members as paid interns-for-a-day on Friday, Dec. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. As a result of the event, Risdall hired a writer, web designer and assistant account executive as ongoing interns through second semester.

The event consisted of an agency tour, a presentation on agency philosophy and another on interactive marketing. There were also two sessions where the students were able to shadow a professional in their field, and the day included three brainstorming sessions wherein agency talent tapped into the young U of MN minds.

“One junior student told me that after being hired for a day at Risdall, he didn’t want to wait through senior year to begin working in the real world,” said John Risdall, CEO and founder of Risdall Advertising Agency. “Each left feeling inspired and anxious to enter the advertising, marketing and PR industries. As paid interns they acted as our employees and provided us with more than brilliant ideas. Everybody got an A+ for the day.”

The brainstorming sessions consisted of generating marketing, advertising and PR ideas for clients such as Brown College, Honeywell Federal Credit Union, business banking clients and for the agency itself. It was an actual client meeting, and even Brown College representatives Joe Ziegler, director of marketing, and Leroy Kurimay, vice president of marketing and admissions, attended and were impressed with student feedback.

In addition to clients, the director of the School of Journalism and Mass Communications, Albert Tims, lecturer Gordon Leighton and assistant professor Dr. Jisu Huh, both in charge of new media, observed part of the day and were encouraged about an ongoing relationship with the agency.

Response from the students was enthusiastic as well. “This is the best day I have had as a student at the University of Minnesota” said Rachel Woods, University of Minnesota senior.
