Each January, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) comes to Las Vegas to showcase the world’s most exciting, technically-advanced products. RMPR helped long-time client Premier Mounts unveil the “World’s Thinnest Mount” by making a splash with a multi-channel PR campaign – resulting in pre-show visibility across traditional and online media including the New York Times.

Thin is definitely in!
Premier Mounts launches the “World’s Thinnest Mount” at CES 2009

If you want to be in the know about consumer electronics, you go to CES. Thousands of exhibitors and attendees from all around the world flock to Las Vegas in January for the annual CES trade show. In 2009, home entertainment reigned supreme with “thin is definitely in.” TVs, thinner than a cell phone, were launched from Sony, Panasonic and Sharp. Anticipating this trend, TV mounting bracket manufacturers were anxious to get visibility for new thin products at the show. With this in mind, Premier Mounts knew it had to release the “World’s Thinnest Mount” at CES 2009.

Combining new and tried-and-true public relations strategies, RMPR used a variety of media relations tools to spread the word and get people excited about “World’s Thinnest Mount.” Premier Mounts wanted to build anticipation for the product – without actually revealing the specifics until show time.

One of the outcomes of the strategy was a piece in the New York Times by technology reporter, Eric Taub. In the Dec. 17, Gadgetwise column, he mentioned Premier Mounts and the anticipated “World’s Thinnest Mount” as something to watch for at CES.

Through traditional advisories and proactive blogger outreach, Premier Mounts was able to set the tone for discussions about mounts and effectively positioned itself as a “must see” in this category at the show. Excited by the coverage, Premier Mounts sent the link to employees, distributors and customers. This mention in the New York Times set the stage for bigger and better coverage of the “World’s Thinnest Mount” in the days leading up to the show, when details of the product were finally revealed.
