Metro Dentalcare’s candy buyback event catches Twin Cities media attention and results in nearly 800 pounds of Halloween candy to donate to charities.
Every year, dentists, parents and kids alike are haunted by the lingering affects of Halloween candy. In an effort to educate parents and kids about the importance of good home dental care and enjoying sweet treats in moderation, Metro Dentalcare engaged RMPR to publicize its first-ever candy-buyback event.
Applying a tried-and-true media relations approach, RMPR secured coverage from major Twin Cities news outlets in the days leading up to and following the event. The coverage resulted in a total collection of nearly 800 pounds of candy for local Ronald McDonald House Charities and Second Harvest Heartland. In addition, Metro Dentalcare received and scheduled dental appointments for several new patients.
This month’s Clients in the News selection is KSTP-TV Channel 5’s coverage of the Metro Dentalcare candy buyback. During the interview, Metro Dentalcare’s Dr. Melissa Naidyhorski of the Chanhassen dental office shared the importance of enjoying candy in moderation, and also provided examples of alternative Halloween treats to reduce the amount of sugar kids consume.
The KSTP-TV interview was one of many broadcast mentions and print stories that appeared during the days surrounding Halloween.
