Background:

Though he was born in Wichita, Kansas, Jared's family moved to Wayzata, Minnesota when he was in kindergarten then to Mound when he started second grade. He admits he was spoiled as a child.

Education:

Jared entered the University of Minnesota, Duluth intending to become a mechanical engineer like his father. After he was put on academic probation his first quarter, he decided to pursue a marketing degree and earned a B.B.A. with a marketing concentration. He went on to receive a Masters in Integrated Marketing Communications from the University of Colorado.

Favorite Achievement:

Proving to his father that there are respectable careers other than mechanical engineering.

All kinds of marketing:

From organic dairy products to athletic apparel, Jared has marketed all kinds of things with both traditional and interactive media. He's worked on the account side with Miller Meester, Cuneo and Associates and Shandwick International, and on the client side with a direct marketing company and a large health care organization. And he's done independent marketing consulting for the last five years.

Sports:

Sports-on-TV philosophy: "If you don't play it, why watch it?" Instead, he races his six road and mountain bikes seven months a year and cross-country skis competitively the other five months. After living in Breckenridge, Colorado for three years and snowboarding about 80 days a year, he has yet to get excited about hitting the flat slopes of the Midwest.

The seventh bike:

A 1974 Honda motorcycle.

Family:

Jared lives in St. Paul with his 80-pound Great Pyrenees mix, Laska.
