Frank Grubbs

Director, Interactive Management and Planning

Joined the agency in January 1998

Background:

The second of two PKs (preacher's kids) to join the agency, Frank was born in Albuquerque and has been all over the map: From Viet Nam to Chicago, graduate school in upstate New York to a major teaching hospital on the Texas gulf coast. A couple of hurricanes later he realized he wanted 'real weather' and finally crossed the Minnesota border to stay nine years ago.

Role at RAA:

Frank wears a lot of hats at the agency so coming up with the right title was difficult. He loves spearheading big communications projects which can span several years. His award-winning projects have a reputation for on-time on-budget productions in a wide variety of media. As an Instructional Designer, interactive learning systems will be one focus of his work while planning and development of the interactive arm of the agency will be another.

Past life:

Before joining RAA, Frank was the Vice-President of Martin/Bastian Interactive, a division he developed after six years as a Producer/Director, and later Director of Production for the Meetings and Events division. Frank developed, produced, directed, photographed, wrote, edited, and programmed a variety of media elements for corporate meetings and events. This included business theatre, videos, multi-image, pyrotechnics and laser shows, and special effects lighting. "It's show biz," he says.

In the interactive arena:

Frank drew on his experience developing interactive programming for survivors of traumatic brain injury, to create an Internet delivered training and evaluation system for physicians and nurses in the field of chronic wound management. Additionally, he has developed an on-line mortgage product selection site, a variety of other web sites, and interactive products.

His brush with fame:

In developing and staging corporate events, Frank has rubbed elbows with many celebrities, including Ellen DeGeneres, Bob Newhart, B.B. King, Rocky Blier, and the Prime Minister of The Bahamas.

Personal:

Frank lives in Ham Lake with his wife Ruby, who is the Creative Director at a major marketing consulting firm. They have three daughters and two grandchildren.

Interests outside of work:

In the summer Frank is always puttering in the pole barn, the garden, or taking care of their three acres in Ham Lake, but that's only if they aren't off camping somewhere. When the snow flies, it's crosscountry skiing and snowshoeing for the whole family, that is of course, if he's not surfin' the Net with his granddaughter Felicia.
